Understanding your results
Third-country duty
The duty payable under the UK Global Tariff when goods do not qualify for a preferential arrangement. Most goods from WTO members pay this rate.
Preferential duty
A lower or zero rate for goods originating in a country with a UK trade agreement, or under schemes such as the Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP).
Quotas & order numbers
Tariff-rate quotas allow a set quantity at a lower rate. Quota order numbers are shown so you can apply for a licence through the right authority.
Licences & controls
Some goods need import licences, certificates or meet prohibitions — from firearms and CITES-listed wildlife to plant health and organic products.
Trade remedies
Anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguard duties protect UK industry. They are applied on top of the standard customs duty where shown.
Import VAT
Standard rate 20%, reduced rate 5% for some goods, zero rate for others. VAT is charged on the landed value: goods value + duty + shipping.
